The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are not encouraged in the peer-review process at Chitkara University Publications (CUP). Peer review is an important part of the scholarly work and requires the integrity of independent expertise, critical evaluation, confidentiality and good scholarly judgment. If AI has been used, there is a requirement for a disclosure statement to accompany the review report. The use of an AI tool in connection with a review shall be limited, responsible, and transparent and shall not compromise the integrity or confidentiality of the review process.
For the purpose of this policy, AI tools include generative AI, large language models, AI-based writing assistants, and other AI systems capable of generating, analysing, or substantially modifying text or content.
Reviewers are strictly prohibited from sharing or uploading manuscripts, unpublished research, or other confidential information into publicly accessible or unsecured or third-party AI systems.
This prohibition also applies to uploading or entering excerpts, figures, tables, reviewer comments, author information, supplementary materials, or any other content that could disclose confidential information from the manuscript.
When preparing a review report, reviewers who employ AI at any point during the review process should declare this in a disclosure statement attached to their review comments. The disclosure should briefly indicate the AI tool used and the purpose for which it was used.
The reviewer is solely responsible for the content, factual accuracy, fairness, and recommendations provided in the review, regardless of whether AI tools were used or not.
AI may not be used as a substitute for the reviewer’s expertise, critical analysis, interpretation, or decision-making. Any assessment of the manuscript and recommendation for the final recommendation shall be solely that of the reviewer.
Reviewers should not rely on AI tools to independently assess the manuscript’s originality, methodology, validity, significance, or suitability for publication, or to generate the substantive basis for their recommendation.
Limited use of AI for language-related assistance, such as improving grammar, spelling, or clarity of reviewer-written comments, may be permitted provided that no confidential manuscript content is disclosed and the reviewer retains full responsibility for the review.

“An AI tool was used for limited language and/or clarity assistance in preparing this review report. No manuscript content or confidential information was shared with or uploaded to the AI tool. The reviewer independently conducted the peer review and is solely responsible for the evaluation, comments, and recommendation provided.”
